Overview and Activities


The South Mountain Audubon Society aims are to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity focusing on Adams County, PA.

The Society works towards those aims with meetings, birding trips, and conservation activities.

There are 2 Important Bird Areas locally:

South Mountain

South Adams County Grasslands

Volunteers are needed to provide refreshments after the programs. If you can help contact the Hospitality Chair, Wendy South at wendydance@hotmail.com.

Activities

Unless indicated otherwise, all SMAS Programs are held at the Adams County Agricultural Resource Center, 670 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg, PA at 7:30 pm. A room number for the SMAS meeting will be posted on the front lobby entry inner door.

5th June: Bird watching trip to Pennsylvania Gamelands #249. Contact Mike O’Brien (540-314-5108) if you are interested participating.

10th June: Birding Basics with Rusty Ryan (details).

9th September: Patti Barber from the PA Game Commission will talk about the success of the Bald Eagle recovery program.

14th December: Christmas Bird Count.
